Genetic Counseling & Testing

Genetic counseling and testing play a crucial role in prenatal care, allowing expectant parents to make informed decisions about their pregnancy and the health of their future child.

What is Genetic Counseling?

Genetic counseling is a personalized service that involves assessing an individual or couple’s risk of having a child with a genetic disorder or birth defect. Our genetic counselors work closely with you to evaluate your medical history, family history, and other relevant factors to determine if genetic testing is recommended. They provide education, support, and guidance throughout the process, helping you navigate complex genetic information and understand the implications for your family’s health.

Genetic Testing Options

We offer a range of genetic tests to assess the risk of inherited conditions and chromosomal abnormalities. These tests can provide valuable insights into your baby’s health and development. Here are some of the genetic testing options available:

MaterniT-NIPT– With a simple blood draw from you as early as nine weeks into your pregnancy, this test can screen for certain chromosomal abnormalities that could affect your baby’s health and development, providing you with more information earlier in your pregnancy.

Inheritest-Carrier-Screening – This test can help your doctor determine if you are at increased risk for having a baby with an inherited disorder, such as cystic fibrosis or spinal muscular atrophy.

Sequential-Screens – This test shows if you are at risk of having a baby with Down syndrome, trisomy 18, or an open neural tube defect.

Testimonials

“I saw Dr. Kelly for the first time a couple of weeks ago. She is kind, caring, and compassionate. She took the time to explain some things to me about genetic testing and shared her own personal story to close any gaps in her message. I would highly recommend Dr. Kelly to anyone looking for a new women’s health provider. She was amazing!” – ME
