June Is Men’s Health Month!
What does men’s health have to do with you? Plenty! Men’s health issues don’t affect only men; they have a significant impact on everyone around them, including you! And because women live longer than men, you may experience your fathers, brothers, sons, and husbands get ill or die before you do. Women are in a unique position to be able to help fight the obstacles men face in getting the health care they need.
The purpose of Men’s Health Month is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. This month gives health care providers, and individuals an opportunity to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury.
Because most women begin seeing a physician for reproductive health issues such as birth control, common infections, or prenatal care at a fairly early age means that they are aware of the need to visit a health care provider regularly. Although doctors suggest that men begin getting annual Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) tests in their forties, younger men should take advantage of free health screenings to form good habits and build trust with their physician.
So this month encourage the men in your life to take charge of their health. You’ll both be glad you did! For more information go to http://www.menshealthmonth.org/
