Testing for Hereditary Cancers – Are You at Risk?
Knowing your personal and family history of cancer is the first step in determining if you might be at increased risk for cancer. This knowledge can help you and your health care provider work out a plan for any necessary treatment.
All cancers are caused by harmful changes, known as mutations in a person’s genes. Most occur by chance, some are thought to be caused by lifestyle. Some are passed down through our family, known as hereditary cancers.
Women’s Health Center partners with Myriad, a leader in the field of hereditary cancer gene testing. We provide our patients the opportunity to be tested for hereditary cancer. The myRisk® test looks at ,any gene mutations associated with increased cancer risk. The test, performed at Women’s Health Center is a quick and easy. Your results will be reviewed with you by a Women’s Health Center provider trained to interpret hereditary test results.
Most insurance companies cover hereditary cancer testing. To learn more about hereditary cancer screening, contact our office at 541-479-8363 or visit https://mySupport360.com
