Annual Well Woman Exams
Annual gynecologic exams, or well woman exams, are an important part of maintaining your overall health and well-being. At Women’s Health Center of Southern Oregon, we recommend that all women schedule a well woman exam every year.
What is an Annual Gynecologic Exam?
An annual gynecologic exam, also known as a well-woman exam, is a comprehensive health checkup that focuses specifically on women’s health. During the exam, your OB/GYN will review your medical history, perform a physical examination, and discuss any concerns or questions you may have about your health or reproductive system.
The exam typically includes:
- A breast exam to check for any lumps or abnormalities
- A pelvic exam to check for any signs of infection or other issues
- A Pap smear to screen for cervical cancer (if needed)
- A discussion of your menstrual cycle and any related concerns
- A review of your overall health, including blood pressure and weight
Why are Annual Gynecologic Exams Important?
Annual gynecologic exams are an important tool for catching health issues early, when they are often easier to treat. They can also help you stay up-to-date on important health screenings and immunizations.
Additionally, annual gynecologic exams provide an opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have about your reproductive health or overall wellbeing. Your OB/GYN can provide guidance on everything from family planning to menopause management.
When Should You Schedule an Annual Gynecologic Exam?
We recommend that all women schedule an annual gynecologic exam every year. However, if you have specific health concerns or risk factors, your OB/GYN may recommend more frequent exams.
