BioTE Pellet Hormone Therapy

Pellet Hormone Therapy

Women’s Health Center of Southern Oregon offers BioTe hormone pellet therapy!  Several of our physicians are trained in this life changing therapy.

BioTE hormone pellet therapy uses hormones derived from natural plant sources to replicate the body’s normal hormone levels.  Hormone pellet therapy treats hormone imbalances which occur when one or more of the body’s key hormones is deficient or not functioning at optimal production levels. As we age, hormone levels naturally decline up to 10% yearly. Hormone imbalance can affect your quality of life and overall health.

Pellets smaller than a grain of rice are inserted under the skin and release a small dose of hormones. As each patient has unique symptoms, each treatment is customized for each patient.  Pellet therapy is at work 24/7 and lasts several months, absorbing into the body.

 Indications and symptoms can include:

  • Physical Exhaustion, lack of energy
  • Problems thinking or concentrating
  • Sweating – night sweats or increased sweating
  • Change is sexual desire, libido, painful intercourse
  • Vaginal dryness, burning
  • Hair loss, thinning or texture change
  • Weight gain despite diet and exercise
  • Dry, wrinkled skin

BioTE Hormone Pellet Frequently Asked Questions

 What are bio-identical hormones?

They are derived from a natural plant source and professionally compounded to be biologically identical to human form of estradiol and testosterone.

What can I expect bio-identical hormones to do for me?

Increased energy levels, restore or increased sexual drive, consistency in moods, increased mental clarity and focus, greater capacity for getting the body in shape to name a few.

How often will I need treatment?
It depends on the person, but anywhere from every 3-5 months

What are pellet therapy side effects?

BioTE® Medical’s hormone pellet therapy side effects are minimal when compared to other hormone delivery methods. That’s because BHRT pellet therapy delivers consistent amounts of hormones 24 hours a day. Unlike other forms of hormone therapy, there are few side effects. Two percent of patients experience mild acne or facial hair, and less than 1% experience hair thinning. All of these mild side effects are easily treatable.

I get horrible premenstrual headaches; will this help me?

Bio-identical therapy has had great success with hormone related headaches.

Why do I need estrogen?

Bio-identical absorbable estrogen is the most important hormone for a woman to protect her against heart attack, stroke, as well as osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s. Synthetic estrogen taken orally does not offer the universal benefits.

I have no libido/sex drive. What will this do for that if anything?

Good hormone balance can greatly improve your sexual desires.

Will I grow unwanted hair from the testosterone?

There is less chance of hair growth with bio-identical hormones.

What’s the difference between bio-identical hormone pellets and creams?

BHRT pellet therapy is injected subcutaneously, resting beneath the skin. This injection eliminates the “roller coaster” effect that often accompanies BHRT creams.

What happens at my consultation?

At your consultation appointment, you and your doctor will discuss your symptoms to determine if BioTE is right course treatment for you.  Labs/blood work will be ordered so your pellets are customized just for you.  An appointment will be scheduled for the insertion which will take less than 5 minutes.  Follow up labs will be done after a few weeks to make sure the dosing is correct.

What Does Pellet Therapy Cost?

The cost of hormone pellet therapy differs based on your individual treatment plan and needs. The pellets and insertion are not covered by insurance. Generally, the BHRT pellet therapy cost is competitive with other hormone therapy delivery methods.
